I've been practicing this run, and I can now do it without dying. BUT, it depends on the spawn. The run to springs is very easy actually. It's very tough for me to explain, and I don't have time to setup screen shots, but there is an area where there aren't any mobs close to bridges....it looks kind of a like a pillaged village of sorts. Wait there, and eventually a huge group of mobs will clear out of the way by crossing a bridge. Cross the bridge, and wait in the nich to the right. Another group will pass you, JUST barely missing your agro circle. Follow path to the right and the springs is right there. That last dash is a real pita. If you die, don't worry...get ready to sprint asap to springs zone.
If you happened to die once, and you make it to springs, don't waste a candy cane. Just kill the warrior/marskman with your 55 build.
Springs zone is the tough part. I found that it totally depends on the spawn. There is a funnel point where you have to run through a vally, and you'll see some open ice to the right that you can't walk on. Sometimes there is a spawn of imps and golems that stand right in the middle, and the will NOT go away. I've waited 20 minutes and the didn't move. If you get this spawn, you'll have to run back and rezone (which really sux). If you do not get this spawn, then it's actually pretty easy to run past the guiles (the most deadly mob in my opinion assuming you keep prot spirit on you.
Thanks to Remmeh for posting this...I would never have tried this run without this being posted. This run is difficult in my opinion, and many people will not be able to do this run despite it being posted here. Also, I would suggest that you do not use up your precious candy canes for this run; at least until you get to the springs (assuming you need to learn the path). The best way to learn how to get to the mine and to understand the spawns is to get in a group and take notes. Just my two cents =)

Candycanes = dun use them as if u die as a 55 monk, u get 1 life. Swap out that -50 health icon and u have 33 life - and that's a decent number to start ur runs. The beauty of the 55 health monk is that dying is a good thing.
there are 2 routes to the Caves. one is the Northen route (move out of mineral springs and turn left then right again after the respawn outpost). The other is the Southern route (Move straight out without turning left or right). The southern route ensures u never face any ice imps and only face 1 boss. However u do face giants and may have to kill some in order to get pass. But this build shouldnt have much problem with that.
BTW. This build can be done with a Mo/r as well, using Dryders defence (to cast ur SoJ when u are being mobbed by that weird lone troll) and Storm chaser.

How many IDS is it possible per run? I got 1, went south way, and Hyl Thunderwind spawned right after the Tundra Giants. Just wondering if its worth it trying to get back to the caves, since I died, (did not pay attention, ) ...
So is it possible to get 2 per run?

Is there any way to get past the avicara wise that spawn near the ice cave entrace? I tried to burry SoJ, but PS or HB get removed, thus I get wasted. Guess it is just luck of the spawn?
I managed to actually get to the caves, but the spawn was avicara wise/warriors + ice imps >_<

I didnt even see 2 per run before the drop nerf. Its 30k in your pocket anyway so the trip was well worth it no matter what.

Getting there isnt so hard, but i for the love of god cant kill the Imps inside the cave, every aggro is about 8 of em, and the constant maelstorm + deep freeze spam is really messing me up.. :/

You have to use your wand to hit one once and then back up untill they all stay out of your aggro bubble. The one you wanded may come inside the bubble, if so, just watch him for malestorm and recast breeze and prot spirit before he does...you will be fine then.

If there's a Guile in that group, chances are you'll probably die ); and yes, it is random. I got lucky that time.
If there's no guile, most of the time you can just tank the avicara and aggro the imps, and kill off the imps with SoJ, giving you some running space.
